Dance of the Witch

It is important to me, as a dance therapist, to give women the tools of re-appropriation of their bodies : dance the Witch is a wonderful tool to do this, that perfectly the virtues of the dance that I cherish deeply, and I have reconnected to my own power.

The Witch is free

She lives alone, she is not married or a widow : no male figure does oversees or supervises. It may be old, or ugly : the standards of beauty, and the desire of the conveniences are foreign to him. Finally, it is absolutely out of the gaze of the man.

The dance is also a space of freedom. Compared to the time that flows and appears often suspended, compared to movements that are not just utilitarian but also bearers of meaning. And also in relation to the characters you can play, with scenes that you can play on, to the dreams that they can materialize. Dance has the power of going wild, to encanaillement of the individual. She releases her body and frees his mind. In this, the dance is a form of magic, as it lends to the dancer all the qualities of freedom of the Witch.

The Witch is not afraid to make funny faces, twisted his body, to be disturbing or even frightening. Far from being locked in her appearance, she uses her whole body and all its senses as a tool of exploration of the real and of his own interiority. Dance of the Witch, it is also searching for the disarticulation, the sudden movement in and out of beauty and the aesthetic. It is allowed to get out of the injunction is beautiful to explore the grotesque, ridiculous, misshapen. The message is the following : my body is primarily a tool for exploring the sensory world, and not a beautiful object to the provision of the eyes, and the pleasure of others.

The witch is subversive and dangerous

Always comes to the image of the Fairy Morgane, formidable seductress and a witch of great power. She knows the power of all the plants, can fly and change into an animal, navigates between the worlds of the living and beyond... It is almost universally regarded as evil, on the contrary, the Fairy Viviane, whose magic would be exclusively dedicated to the service of the good. A modern interpretation of the myth by Morgane could present it as a woman who is free and independent, which does not hesitate to use his power to achieve his goals, even to kill one or two knights at a passage. What makes Morgane " dangerous ", it is precisely the great power it has, and the absence of guarantee that it will not use that for good.

We also find this subversiveness in the dance. If the practice of the dance is reduced to that of the balls policés in the Nineteenth century in the West, and today our dances we are almost all lost, it is because the forces in power have seen the power of liberating and enjoyable, and méfiées. Moreover, the settlers banned the practice of traditional dances in many occupied countries. Especially in Asia, where women of artistic power (devadasi in India, geishas in Japan etc) have been relegated to the ranks of prostitutes.

The Witch is connected to its power

The first scene of the film The Witches of Akelarre opens with the following sentence : "nothing is more dangerous than a woman who dance ". To hear it was for me as an enlightenment on this led me to the dance-therapy. It gave me the belief in myself that yes, the dance is dangerous, and that the woman dancing is dangerous because it is free from the prisons in which man seeks to lock him up. So yes, women need to dance, as witches, such as succubi and goddesses, because they come and enter the body of the essences of their power over the world.
